HM Prison Service
comprehensive guide to the Prison Service including quite a useful links page

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons
HMIP provide an independent scrutiny of the conditions for and treatment of prisoners and other detainees; promoting the concept of ‘healthy prisons’ in which staff work effectively to support prisoners and detainees to reduce re-offending or achieve other agreed outcomes.

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Probation
HM Inspectorate of Probation is an independent Inspectorate, funded by the Home Office and reporting directly to the Home Secretary.
Their purpose is to Inspect the work and performance of National Probation Service and of Youth Offending Teams.

National Offenders Management Service (NOMS)
The National Offender Management Service (NOMS) was created in 2004 following a Number 10, Treasury and Home Office review of correctional services. The review identified key gaps in the work of prisons and probation. It also identified changes in sentencing that had led to increases in prison and probation workloads.

National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders

Prison Reform Trust
PRT is a registered charity, founded in 1981. The founder chair was industrialist Sir Monty Finniston. His successors were former Cabinet Minister, Edmund Dell, and broadcaster and journalist, Jon Snow. Lord Hurd of Westwell, the former Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary, succeeded Jon Snow as PRT's fourth chair in November 1997. Robert Fellowes, a crossbench peer, who has served as Private Secretary to the Queen, and holds a senior position at Barclays succeeded Lord Hurd in September 2001.

Howard League for Penal Reform
The Howard League for Penal Reform is the oldest penal reform charity in the UK. It was established in 1866 and is named after John Howard, one of the first prison reformers. The Howard League is entirely independent of government and is wholly funded by voluntary donations.

Shropshire Help and Advice for Relatives and friends of Prisoners - SHARP
Free and confidential help, advice, support and friendship to the relatives and friends of those serving sentences, awaiting trial or facing the prospect of legal action.
