Jacqueline Brooks Jacqueline was born and educated in Croydon where she lived until moving to West Wickham in 1972 with her husband John. She is now retired having worked for 42 years in the NHS, starting at the Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital in 1956 as an 'office junior' and progressing to Senior Medical Secretary. She spent a short while working at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children in Carshalton and then started work locally in Croydon firstly at Croydon General in 1963 until its closure and then moving to Mayday where she stayed until retiring in 1998. Working for many different consultants was a very interesting occupation and was particularly enjoyable in the smaller hospitals. A lot of her time has also been spent in private catering, helping her husband - a professional chef. Since retiring she has worked on a voluntary basis at St. Michael's church in Croydon - a church much associated with her school days at the Old Palace. At the moment she is managing The Angel Cafe in the newly developed church hall and is currently a churchwarden at St. Michael and All Angels with St James, Croydon. In her spare time she enjoys gardening and walking with Lottie her cocker spaniel. Other hobbies include reading and phillumeny (to the uninitiated that is a collector of matchbox labels and booklets!). |
